My Own Fairytale Engagement

August 9th, 2019 started like any other day. I woke up, and started editing for the day. I remember feeling like I COULDN’T WAIT for Justin to get home from work so we could head up to the cottage for a much needed weekend away. The day seemed to drag.

Justin FINALLY got home, we packed the car and headed up North. I remember thinking that he was acting a little more quiet than usual but didn’t think much of it.

We arrive at the cottage later that night, grab all of our stuff out of the trunk and head on over to go inside. The doors are locked. Justin tells me to put the stuff down and we’ll try the back door and I respond with, “why don’t we just call them?” (My mom and step dad had been up for their summer vacation).

We walk around the back of the cottage in the pitch black and that’s when I saw them. Tiny little string lights and candles painted a teepee with a warm glow. I turned to Justin with the most surprised look on my face and said, “what is happening right now?” I knew.

With my mom and step dad as our witnesses Justin walked me up to the front of the teepee, took my hands and started speaking the most beautiful words I have ever heard. He had to keep grabbing my hands away from my face because the tears were REAL and I just couldn’t believe that this was happening. He then dropped to one knee and asked if I’d marry him. HELL FREAKIN’ YEAH I WILL. No, that’s not what I said but I kinda wish I had.

AND THEN I see the ring. What the helllllllll. It was everything I ever wanted in a ring. Rose gold, with a raw, uncut salt and pepper diamond. So different and so ME. I had actually spotted it at the One Of A Kind Show in Toronto earlier in the year and I immediately fell in love. So much so that I brought Yuliya’s card home and gave it to Justin that night. Well apparently the next day he purchased the exact ring I tried on at the show. Meant to be much?

We spent the night hanging out in our teepee, snuggling and drinking champagne. It was absolutely perfect.
